EVENT PLANNING/LEADERSHIP

OES Fund Grade and Division Reps

Job description: Parent volunteers are ambassadors to their grade and/or division tasked with educating other parents about the importance of the Annual Fund and inspiring them to donate.  They may attend regularly scheduled parent meetings during October and participate in the Phonathon at the end of the October.

The OES Fund is the school’s most vital and basic fundraising effort. Every year the School appeals to its entire community for unrestricted donations which are used, with other non-tuition income, to fund over 15% of the operating budget. The OES Fund supports the mission of OES.

FOESL

Job description:  Committee members plan and arrange FOESL events such as visiting authors and guest lectures.  General volunteers help with FOESL activities throughout the year, including reading celebrations and teas.

The Friends of the OES Libraries (FOESL) activities encourage, support and promote reading throughout our extended community.  Committee members meet regularly to assist division librarians, arrange for visiting authors and guest lecturers and assist with the fund raising events organized through FOESL.

Auction Committee Chairs

Job description: Plan, organize and lead a variety of activities for the annual auction.  This is pre-event planning.  Activity committees include special events, organizing/scheduling volunteers, catalog, close-out, decorations, invitations and reservations, publicity, Live Auction, Silent auction, procurement, sponsorship, and cleanup.

The OES Auction is wonderful evening in March that brings the entire OES community together. Funds from the Auction are primarily used to fund OES faculty educational enrichment experiences. In the past the OES Auction has also benefited the OES campus in several other ways, computer upgrades, the turf field and traffic and parking improvements, the loop road and the communications center. This volunteer activity provides lots of contact with OES parents from all divisions.

Homecoming Volunteers

Job description: Volunteers assist with the school-wide homecoming celebration by helping set-up, running the parade and fun-food booths (popcorn, etc.), and cleaning-up after the afternoon/early evening festivities.

Homecoming is an annual all-school celebration including soccer games, food and fun for all.  Current families and alumni are all invited to attend.  Dinner is provided by OES food service.

Auction Event Volunteers

FOESL’s GOBS (Great OES Book Swap)

Time commitment: 2 hours per shift

Job description: Volunteers help with book collection, sorting, setup, cleanup and checkout of books at this bi-annual book swap event.

DORMS

Job description: Volunteers host dorm students in their homes over school breaks when the dorms are closed.  Adult hosts must have an approved DHS background check.

The Host Family program encourages interactions between dorm and day students and their families and enhances the sense of community at OES.  Families host an Upper School dorm student that is unable to return home during the Winter and/or Spring break dorm closures.  Families from all divisions are welcome.
